Club captain Alex Stead will lead a youthful looking side in an Easter Sunday pre-season friendly just one week from the start of the 2025 campaign.
Eight of Lightcliffe’s squad are teenagers as the team to take on Bradford Premier League Division One’s Morley showcase the future of the Club and the strength-in-depth of our junior section.
Indian professional Rajat Dey is due to land in Manchester at 7am on Sunday morning and could make his debut for the club - either in the team or supporting from pitchside, depending on the toll taken by his long-haul flight. Dey is set to be an intriguing addition to the 2025 squad as he’s a top of the order right-handed batsman, left-arm spin bowler and right-hand seam bowler!
Stead, along with 19 year old Yusuf Malik and Jordan Pickles, provide the experience in the battling line-up with Ben Speak joining them in the middle order along with 19-year-old Will and 16 year old George Leach. All eyes will also be on 15-year-olds Isaac Morley and Monty Ramsden, and 14-year-old Lucas Arnot.
Redford Holdsworth and 16-year-old Oliver Barrowcliffe will take the new ball. Both have impressed at winter nets with Barrowcliffe proving to be a real handful for batters. Stead, Malik and George Leach will provide the change seam options while 17-year-old Leo Flanagan, plus Pickles, Arnot and Morley providing plentiful spin options.
Morley’s team is likely to include Lightcliffe product wicketkeeper-batsman Finn Brookes who left Till Carr Lane 12 months ago for East Bierley but has moved again.
The Clubhouse will be open for cricket teas and treats, and our Pétanque players will be playing during the afternoon as usual, so please join us from 12.30pm for a cracking afternoon of Easter Sunday sport and socialising.
