A undoubted summer of success for Lightcliffe's young batsmen reaches a lofty peak this week as Under 15 captain Isaac M makes his 1st XI debut this afternoon. His selection is a reward for several summers of hard work which culminated in a maiden senior fifty which became a maiden century v Castleford's Townville CC at the end of July.
As reported yesterday on these pages, Isaac followed this up mid August with a "Man of the Match" performance scoring 78 not out as the Halifax Junior Cricket League's Under 17 side won the Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival's (formerly and still known as the Tavs) Joe Lumb Cup for the first time in the competition's 62 year history!!

The below lists the best performances with the bat in senior cricket by Lightcliffe juniors so far this summer. The fact that 7 junior players have made senior 50s with one centurion speaks volumes for the quality of Lightcliffe's young batsmen.
For those new to our summer sport, it should also be noted that, generally speaking, Saturday cricket is of a higher standard than Sunday cricket. Therefore, selection for, and success in Saturday cricket for any junior player is an achievement itself!
It perhaps should also be pointed out that the youngest of those listed was 12 when the season started!!
Furthermore, whilst two of the boys are in their 4th consecutive summer representing Yorkshire at their age group, two on the list have not played any representative cricket (yet?!)
And for one, cricket is not even his first sport for he is a contracted apprentice footballer!!!
